Learned Presents Playing with Words: Creative Exercises for Home and School
Presented as part of LingFest 23.
The Workshop begins soon! I’ll open the meeting around 8:45 a.m. Japan time and the workshop will start at 9:00. All are welcome.
There is a time zone converter and the Zoom invite at the bottom of the page.
Creativity is hard. I mean, for years now, you’ve been told that journaling is good for you. And it is! Journaling can be a rewarding way to organize your thoughts, consult your own feelings, and record your experiences. But writing about the same old topics day in and day out can be kind of a drag. Besides, what do you even write about?
And it’s not just journaling. It’s finding creative things to do with your kids on rainy days, planning classroom exercises, and even just trying to come up with something to draw. It’s a bit much sometimes.
Fortunately, we’re here to help you find some new and inventive ways to liven things up. And by we, I mean me and the English language.
This February 12th, join me (and English!) in a short workshop designed to help you explore your creativity through coining new words in fun, simple exercises to help you with your journaling - or your diary writing, or drawing, or spending time with your kids, or teaching your students, or anything else, really!
This workshop is being presented as part of LingFest 23, a kind of linguistics oriented fringe festival being held online as part of LingCom 23 . The workshop is free and open to all, no registration or sign-up needed. As we get closer to the date, I’ll post a Zoom link here for any and all.
This workshop is a first for me, so please be patient and please join if you’re so inclined! We’ll go over a few of the more than a dozen ways English coins new words and try our hand at a few. It’ll be fun, join us!
